A form of direct marketing in which sales literature or other promotional material is mailed directly to selected potential purchasers. The seller may be the producer of the products or a business that specializes in this form of marketing. The seller may build up his own list of potential customers or he may buy or rent a list (see list renting). See also mail-order house
